Revolutionizing Emergency Care: A Modern Approach to Dynamic and Inclusive Healthcare Spaces

Revolutionizing Emergency Care: A Modern Approach to Dynamic and Inclusive Healthcare Spaces
Say goodbye to the traditional regimental design of emergency departments. Today's patients and diverse staff demand spaces that are as dynamic, inclusive and portray a sense of urgency and privacy at the same time. When we designed this 1500 bed facility for a confidential client in the North Indian state of Haryana, we were asked what new can be brought on the table to re-define Emergency care in India. To meet the expectations, we analyzed the data related to acute, non-acute patient arrival patterns, workflow mapping of staff viz a viz patients, analyzed the percentage of patients seeking urgent MRI or CT scan services and also studied the data related to covid 19 outbreak! Acenzo's healthcare architecture team led by Pranjal Bajpai developed a unique process to transform traditional emergency areas into quick-response time, care-driven hubs that fuel collaboration between control center i.e. hybrid nurse station cum reception and care centers i.e. (triage, resuscitation, first aid, injection/ plaster room, operation theaters, radiology services, and patient wards etc.). Additionally, since the emergency department is the main source of a healthcare facility's bottom line, we ensured enough circulation spaces, waiting hubs, linear bigger reception cum nursing station to avoid overcrowding. On an average nationwide, 65 percent of in-patient admissions, and up to 70 percent of outpatient procedures originate from Emergency departments. Special attention was paid to the workflow, clean line of sight for movement, wayfinding, efficient lighting, acoustics, and ventilation. Sufficient lighting and acoustics allow for accurate reading and clear communication, respectively, while proper ventilation creates a more comfortable work environment. The Interior was kept subtle, earthy with a warm neutral grey color palette. Our architecture design team at Acenzo are embracing this new approach to help our clients create future-ready healthcare spaces. #healthcaredesign #architecture #emergency #india #acenzo #interior #patientcare #designthinking
